Even though Aaronson, a 24-year-old player with 47 USA caps, has not played at his best in a Leeds shirt since returning to the team from a loan at Union Berlin, he was still expected to get called up.
Aaronson was left off of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad that will play either Canada or Mexico in the final and Thomas Christiansen’s Panama in the Nations League semi-finals.
Pochettino has given an explanation for his choice to leave Aaronson out, stating that the USA has a lot of options in that position. Weston McKennie, Giovani Reyna, and Christian Pulisic are among those who have been chosen.
Diego Luna of Real Salt Lake has also been added after showing well in the friendlies in January. Luna showed “great guts,” according to Pochettino, for continuing to play for the USA despite having a broken nose and dishing out an assist.
Luna is known as “Moon Boy,” and Leeds is interested in recruiting him after he won the 2024 MLS Young Player of the Season award. Although his engagement in the USA may increase that, Luna is currently valued at £7 million.
Now that Pochettino has chosen Luna over Aaronson, Leeds must act quickly. Why is not a player on their shortlist already being chosen above the Leeds star as the Whites need a number ten?
Aaronson, who is currently 24 years old, has been playing in Europe for a while, but Luna has not broken out of the MLS yet. But the MLS is getting better, so Luna’s performance is not to be discounted.
