Netflix Releases Trailer for the Highly Anticipated George Harrison Documentary
July 4, 2025 — Los Angeles, CA
Netflix has officially released the trailer for its highly anticipated documentary, “Here Comes the Son: The George Harrison Story”, set to premiere globally on August 15. The two-hour documentary promises an intimate and revelatory look into the life, music, and spiritual journey of the legendary Beatles guitarist.
Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay, the project has been in development for nearly three years. The trailer, which dropped early Thursday morning, offers fans a glimpse into never-before-seen archival footage, rare interviews, and exclusive performances that chronicle Harrison’s evolution—from the “quiet Beatle” to a pioneering solo artist and humanitarian.
“George was always the most mysterious of the Beatles,” DuVernay says in a statement. “But behind that quiet exterior was a man full of passion, faith, and revolutionary ideas about music and life. We wanted to show the George people didn’t get to see.”
Narrated in part by Harrison himself through previously unreleased audio journals, the documentary includes commentary from surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, as well as appearances by Eric Clapton, Tom Petty’s daughter Adria Petty, Dhani Harrison, and even Olivia Harrison, George’s widow, who served as an executive producer.
One standout moment teased in the trailer is a rediscovered jam session from 1971 at Friar Park, featuring Harrison, Clapton, and Bob Dylan performing an acoustic version of “All Things Must Pass.” The segment is already generating buzz across social media, with fans expressing excitement at the possibility of unheard material from that era.
Netflix describes the documentary as “a spiritual and musical odyssey, celebrating a man who searched for peace in a chaotic world and used his music to heal and inspire.” Along with chronicling his time with the Beatles, the film explores Harrison’s deep interest in Indian culture, his collaboration with Ravi Shankar, and his role in organizing the groundbreaking 1971 Concert for Bangladesh.
In addition to the documentary itself, Netflix announced a companion soundtrack will be released on the same day via Dark Horse Records. The album will include remastered classics, live recordings, and a newly discovered demo titled “Ocean of Light,” believed to have been recorded in the early 1990s.
Dhani Harrison, who also contributed to the musical direction of the documentary, called the experience “deeply personal.” He added, “This project is more than a biography. It’s a love letter to my father’s spirit, his humor, and his endless curiosity.”
Fans of the Beatles and music history aficionados alike are already counting down the days until the premiere. Early reviews from industry insiders who viewed the pre-release cut are calling it “one of the most moving and insightful music documentaries of the decade.”
“Here Comes the Son: The George Harrison Story” streams exclusively on Netflix starting August 15.
