Marc Bernal is scheduled to have surgery and contract negotiations this week at Barcelona.
Marc Bernal is set for a key week at Barcelona as he will undergo knee surgery and hold talks with the club over a new contract.
The teenager has been ruled out for the season after suffering a ruptured ACL against Rayo Vallecano and will now go under the knife. It’s a huge blow for the youngster who had begun the season in the first team and looked set for a breakthrough campaign.
Barcelona are well aware of this and want to reassure Bernal about his future by holding talks about extending his contract, according to Marca.
Bernal only just renewed his contract in July but Barca want to extend it again as soon as he turns 18 in May and will also offer a salary increase to reflect his recent breakthrough.
The Catalans are eager to secure Bernal’s long-term future and will also need to raise his buyout clause to ward off any potential admirers and ensure he can’t be praised away from the club.
