Dear Indiana Pacers Organization, Coaches, Teammates, and Fans,
It is with a heavy heart and a mind full of reflection that I submit this letter of resignation, stepping away from my role as the center for the Indiana Pacers. This decision has not come lightly, nor without deep consideration of what this franchise, this city, and this game have meant to me over the years. But after countless hours of soul-searching and dialogue with my family, coaches, and mentors, I believe it is time to close this chapter of my basketball career and pursue a new path that aligns with my evolving personal and professional aspirations.
First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Pacers organization. From the moment I was drafted, you welcomed me into a community that felt like family. The faith the front office placed in me, the guidance from the coaching staff, and the camaraderie with my teammates have been invaluable. The Indiana Pacers have been more than just a team—they have been my home, my support system, and the foundation on which I built my professional identity.
The city of Indianapolis, with its passionate fans and vibrant culture, has also been instrumental in shaping my journey. The roar of the crowd at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the heartfelt cheers, the signs, and the chants will forever echo in my memory. It is humbling to know that I was able to inspire young athletes here and contribute to a community that loves this sport so deeply. To every fan who believed in me, celebrated my highs, and stood by me during challenges—thank you. Your unwavering support fueled my drive on and off the court.
However, as much as I cherish the past and the present, I must be honest about my future. The game of basketball, while a lifelong passion, is also a demanding profession that requires immense physical and mental dedication. Over the past few seasons, I have felt a growing desire to explore opportunities beyond the hardwood. This includes furthering my education, engaging more deeply in community development projects, and investing time in entrepreneurial ventures I’ve long dreamed of. I am eager to challenge myself in new arenas and contribute in ways that extend beyond basketball.
Leaving a professional team is never easy, and for me, this resignation is especially bittersweet. I have spent years building chemistry with my teammates, learning from coaches, and striving to elevate the Pacers to championship heights. We’ve shared victories, heartbreaks, and unforgettable moments. These experiences have shaped me not just as an athlete, but as a leader and a person. I believe in this team’s potential and will continue to cheer them on fervently from afar.
I also want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible staff—the trainers, medical team, equipment managers, and everyone behind the scenes who work tirelessly to keep us at our best. Your dedication and professionalism often go unnoticed by the public, but they never went unappreciated by me. Thank you for your support and for always having my back.
As I prepare to step away, I do so with the hope that my departure will open doors for new talent and fresh energy to propel the Pacers forward. This organization deserves success and glory, and I am confident that the next chapter will be bright and rewarding.
To my family, who have been my rock through every season, thank you for your unconditional love and sacrifice. You have stood by me through injuries, long travels, and late nights, always reminding me why I play this game. Your support means more than words can express, and I look forward to spending more quality time with you as I transition into this new phase.
Lastly, to every young athlete who has looked up to me, I want to say this: Never stop dreaming. Work hard, stay humble, and embrace every challenge as a chance to grow. Basketball is more than a sport—it’s a vehicle for learning resilience, teamwork, and leadership. I hope my journey has inspired you to chase your goals relentlessly.
Though my jersey may no longer hang in the Pacers’ locker room, my heart will always be intertwined with this team and city. I look forward to seeing the Pacers thrive and to supporting them in any way I can in the future.
Thank you for everything.
With deepest respect and gratitude,
Myles Turner
