In a telling Celtic interview, Brendan Rodgers is accused of Aberdeen’s transgression as the narrative is clamped by a “minor” VAR reminder.

Willie Miller, a legend of Aberdeen, has criticized Brendan Rodgers for believing that Celtic should have won the match against the top-seeded teams.

The match between the top two teams in the Scottish Premiership was exciting, and the Dons had to come back after Celtic seized a two-goal lead in the first half courtesy to goals from Kyogo and Reo Hatate. Jimmy Thelin sent in a revitalized Reds for the second half, and Ester Sokler gave them a goal before Aberdeen skipper Graeme Shinnie’s attempt veered out of Kasper Schmeichel’s reach.

Miller was keen to note out that things could have gone very differently at Celtic Park, but it does leave the two teams tied on points, with the Hoops just maintaining their lead on goal differential. After allowing a two-goal lead to slip in Glasgow’s east end, Rodgers told BBC Sportsound believed his team deserved to win the three points.

However, Miller pointed out that the Reds had been on the verge of returning all three points to the Granite City after a VAR call. With the score tied at 2-2, Aberdeen defender Slobodan Rubezic received a free kick from the left that would cannon off of Duk and past Kasper Schmeichel.

At Clydesdale House, however, Miller was quick to point out that Rodgers’ captain had overplayed, and the striker would be penalized for handball and the effort chalked off by the team. Dons legend Miller responded, “They made a number of opportunities, but Aberdeen had that goal hacked off,” when asked if he agreed with the Celtic manager that the home team should have won.

Brendan seemed to get around that during the interview. It was also highly marginal. Indeed, they had several opportunities, and you would expect Celtic to generate some, but Aberdeen held their ground. Mitov made some outstanding saves, and that is their job.

“I simply found it to be revitalizing. Aberdeen and Jimmy Thelin deserve a great deal of praise for coming here and playing a close game.”
