He is not going to play again…

The Detroit Lions lost defensive captain and middle linebacker Alex Anzalone to a broken forearm on Sunday in the 52-6 victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said postgame that Anzalone will be out 6-to-8 weeks. The Lions have seven games remaining in the regular season.

Anzalone stayed on the ground after making the tackle on the first play of the Jaguars’ final drive before halftime. Jacksonville ran a speed option toward the Lions sideline and Anzalone was in on the tackle of Travis Etienne but got his arm caught between safety Brian Branch’s helmet and Etienne’s body.

He stayed on the ground in front of his coaches and eventually got up holding his left wrist, and walked straight to the locker room.

Anzalone, a team captain since he joined Detroit as a free agent in 2021, has been one of the key leaders of Detroit’s resurgent defense, which came into Week 11 ranked fifth in the NFL in scoring defense. Anzalone ranked second on the team with 51 tackles, including six tackles for loss, and had four defended passes. He is one of the veteran Lions leaders. Last year, he led the team with a career-high 129 tackles.
