Metal Allegiance, the renowned heavy metal supergroup, is gearing up to create new music in 2025. The band’s core lineup—bassist David Ellefson (formerly of Megadeth), guitarist Alex Skolnick (Testament), drummer Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), and bassist Mark Menghi—has been in discussions about this upcoming project.

In a recent interview, Alex Skolnick shared insights into the band’s plans:

“Yes. We’ve been talking about it for some time. It’s always easier said than done, given everybody’s schedules, but we’re continuing to talk about it and I’m pretty sure that [2025] is the year we will get started on it. So I don’t know what it’s gonna look like, I don’t know how it’s going to compare to the past albums. Maybe we’ll get our feet wet with an EP or a single — who knows? — but either way, we’re gonna get started and see how it goes, probably later this [coming] year.”

This development marks a significant moment for Metal Allegiance, as their last studio album, Volume II: Power Drunk Majesty, was released in 2018. The band is celebrated for its collaborative spirit, often featuring a diverse array of guest musicians in both recordings and live performances. This approach not only showcases the versatility of its core members but also enriches the metal genre by bringing together various talents.

The origins of Metal Allegiance trace back to 2014 when bassist and songwriter Mark Menghi formed the group. He soon enlisted David Ellefson, Alex Skolnick, and Mike Portnoy, solidifying the band’s core lineup. Over the years, Metal Allegiance has evolved from performing covers of metal classics to creating original compositions, further cementing their place in the metal community.

In addition to their recording endeavors, Metal Allegiance has been active on the live circuit. They announced their annual Anaheim show for January 2025, a tradition that coincides with the Winter NAMM Show. These performances are known for their high energy and the inclusion of special guests, making them a highlight for fans.

The anticipation surrounding Metal Allegiance’s new material is palpable. Fans are eager to see how the band will build upon their previous work and what new elements they might introduce. Given the members’ extensive experience and the band’s history of innovative collaborations, the upcoming project promises to be a noteworthy addition to the metal genre.

As 2025 unfolds, the metal community will be watching closely for updates from Metal Allegiance. Whether the new material takes the form of an EP, a full-length album, or a series of singles, it’s clear that the band’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of metal remains as strong as ever.
